The Gwaebul in Bongseonsa is the Buddhist painting made in late Chosun dynasty.Sanggung Seong-ae Lee made it for Yeongbin Kim ( 1669~1735 : Mother of King Jeongjo ) in 1735 ( the 11th year of Yeongjo period ).
Yeongbin Kim was a great-great-granddaughter of Sang-heon Kim, a granddaughter of Su-jeung Kim and a daughter of Seongcheonbusa Chang-guk Kim. She became a royal harem of King Sukjong.
Birozanasamsinbul is at the upper part of the picture and 6 main Bucchist saints are at the lower part. And there are 10 students of Buddha including Anan and Gaseob, celestial nymphs, Cheongun's around the halo.
celestial nymphs and children are discribed between Anan and Gaseob.
At the end below, nymphs and Palbujung are painted. Samsinbul's are expressed as generous characters and looked like as if they came out of the painting and save living things.
This painting is well balanced with bright colors. And the luminosity is controled by thin coloring and the motion of ink lines. The Gwaebul makes us feel its depth of beauty with clear thing coloring effect that was never shown in buddhist pictures of 19th century.
And it doesn't have schematized and formal facts. This picture is a masterpiece in general and it is enshrined on the left side of the sanctuary at special occasions such as "Buddhist Day" the 8th April every year. Location : Bongseonsanae 255, Bupyeong-Ri, Jinjeob-Eub
