Grave of the Great Lord Deokheungu

Grave of the Great Lord Deokheungu

Born as a son of Jungjong and Changbin Ahn (1530∼1559) and dead when he was 30 years old (the 14th year of Myungjong).

Ennobled as Dukheunggun when he was 9 having Injong and Myungjong as his brothers.

Myungjong was dead without a successor so his 3rd son, Hasunggun (Sunjo) ascended into the throne in 1576 and 3 years later he became daewongun, from then, daewongun system got started. His grave (the 55th Kyunggi-do monument) is located at Duksongri,

Byulnaemyun, Namyangju-city.It is simply called as “Dukneung” and the temple he used to visit called as “Dukjeol”.

It has been said that those name are being used because his son, Sunjo’s filial affection made people to call his father’s grave a “neung (higher status of grave)”.

In that area, there is a hill to Sanggye-dong, Seoul, which is still called as “Dukneung gogae (hill)” and other than the grave, Shindobi, Jangmyungdeung and his son (Hawongun)’s grave are located together.

Public transportation
Taking the bus number of 10-5 at the spot out of exit number of 1 in Danggogae station (Seoul Subway 4th line) and pass over “Dukneung gogae”, then you will find the grave on your left side
Automobile
From Danggogae station (Seoul Subway 4th line), passing over “Dukneung gogae”, then you will find the grave on your left side.
