Ennobled as Dukheunggun when he was 9 having Injong and Myungjong as his brothers.
Myungjong was dead without a successor so his 3rd son, Hasunggun (Sunjo) ascended into the throne in 1576 and 3 years later he became daewongun, from then, daewongun system got started. His grave (the 55th Kyunggi-do monument) is located at Duksongri,
Byulnaemyun, Namyangju-city.It is simply called as “Dukneung” and the temple he used to visit called as “Dukjeol”.
It has been said that those name are being used because his son, Sunjo’s filial affection made people to call his father’s grave a “neung (higher status of grave)”.
In that area, there is a hill to Sanggye-dong, Seoul, which is still called as “Dukneung gogae (hill)” and other than the grave, Shindobi, Jangmyungdeung and his son (Hawongun)’s grave are located together.
